Fun fact
She learned to paint by watching the artists she modelled for, including Renoir and Toulouse-Lautrec.
How she made it
Hard black contour lines drawn first, then filled with unmixed, high-key oil colour. She kept the drawing visible through the paint and refused conventional flattering modelling, working from life with no preparatory idealisation.
