She got her first camera at 48 as a gift to fill idle time, and converted a chicken coop into her studio.
How she made it
Wet collodion glass negatives exposed for minutes at a time, printed as albumen prints. She used a long-focus lens wide open for a shallow plane of focus and accepted swirls, scratches and fingerprints in the collodion as part of the picture.
