Her two-ton marble 'Death of Cleopatra' was lost for nearly a century, it spent decades marking a racehorse's grave.
How she made it
Direct carving in Carrara marble, unusual at a time when sculptors handed clay models to Italian carvers. She modelled in clay, then cut the marble herself with point, claw and rasp, finishing surfaces by hand-polishing with abrasives.
